Ian Shott CBE FREng is a highly experienced life sciences executive, entrepreneur and board adviser with over 35 years’ leadership experience across the global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical engineering sectors.
Ian was the co‑founder and Executive Chair of Arcinova, a UK‑based pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), which was acquired by Quotient Sciences in 2021. Ian joined the Quotient Sciences Board as a Non‑Executive Director in March 2023 and continues to provide strategic advice to the business. Ian bought a majority position in Ingenza in 2022 and is the Chairman and strategic leader of this Engineering Biology Specialist CDMO.
In addition, Ian is Executive Chair of Shott Trinova, a specialist advisory and investment firm focused on supporting high‑growth technology‑driven life sciences businesses. Earlier in his career, he founded Excelsyn, a pharmaceutical development company that was sold to AMRI in 2010, and held senior executive and board‑level roles at multinational organisations including AstraZeneca, Lonza and Rhodia, working across the UK, Europe and the United States.
Ian has played a prominent role in shaping the UK life sciences and engineering landscape. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a former President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and previously chaired the UK Government’s Leadership Forum for Industrial Biotechnology. He has also served on the Governing Board of Innovate UK and holds visiting professorships at the Universities of Oxford, Nottingham and Newcastle.
Ian was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to chemical engineering and the life sciences.
